YOUR SUPERPOWER

Today’s blog is for you out there looking to grow their business, especially coaches, trainers and speakers, not selling as much as you would like. There was a time when “branding” meant logo’s and catalogues and in today’s online marketplace, the real value is not in appearing to be a big company, rather in just being you. Online and offline, your personality shines through in a variety of ways. Your personality is what transforms your message from boring to fascinating, increasing both the impact of your messages as well as the quality of the opportunities generated from them. While there is nothing new under the sun when it comes to most content – you are new, you are fresh, you are you!

Your Authentic Voice

How you speak and write and even how you act on camera or in an audio interview has the power to instantly identify you to your audience.To make that oh-so-important first impression and connection, you have to showcase your personality and touch your prospects on a relatable, accessible level. You can see this in action if you scroll through your Facebook feed. It’s easy to know who has posted a particular image or status update, just by recognising the style, the voice with which they generally speak. There’s an even more important aspect of your “voice” though: it has the power to attract a specific audience.

In recent years, a few high profile coaches and product sellers have become celebrities of a sort, largely because of their direct, “don’t hold back” language. I have for a long time followed Katrina Ruth, she makes no apologies for her use of offensive words, and her followers love her for it. And those that don’t? Well, as she says quite openly, her services are most definitely, not for them. Now while I find her language a little hard to take, she has great information and while I can’t handle her stuff in big doses, her unique self, definitely does have her stand out as different and everything she puts out is totally on brand. I love to follow her as an example of being who you are.

And I am not promoting foul language or offensiveness as the way to go. There are many other people out there who build their brand on their happiness, on their ability to be kind and generous, some are always ‘nice’ and never appear to be defeated or overwhelmed, some are full of positivity and all are seen as inspirational to their fans and clients. And that’s okay too, because, that’s actually the key, simply finding out who you are and then simply being you! You will then attract those you connect with 100%.

We can be sure that while very different in approach, it’s the same thing that attracts others, it’s the one thing each have in common: authenticity. Authenticity – when it’s clear that if you were to meet them in person, they would speak and act exactly as they do online. The more authentic – the stronger the brand – the more successful the business. And yes for many of us this is a work in progress as we get more comfortable with who we are in the public arena.

Your Story

So, how about you? What is your story? How did you get to where you are today? For a long time this is what held me back in becoming more visible and I have slowly learnt how to be able to share my story. And it is something I continue to work through, slowly but surely, more and more of my story comes out.

Believe me, your story, which to you might seem boring and uneventful, is a powerful tool that can help solidify your brand and attract just the right audience to your message. It doesn’t have to be dramatic, and you certainly don’t have to share more than you’re comfortable with. And, it does have to be your story. Be your true self, and you’ll never have to worry about attracting the right audience. They will self-select, and your perfect client will find you.
